Ten Days!

Ten days until NaNoWriMo starts! Can you believe it? I'm so excited. So far in preparation I've completed a chapter outline, revised some previously written material, and done some fun and quirky things like writing letters to my characters and describing my "inner critic."

Yesterday, Abbie created an inspirational book cover for me. It looks incredible! Quite a bit like what I imagine the characters to be. =) (Thanks, Abbie!!! You're the best!)

I have to admit, in the midst of my excitement, I'm slightly terrified. See, I'm going on a week long vacation in November, so I'm only going to have three weeks instead of four to complete my 50,000 word manuscript. Yikes! I think I'm going to stock up on dark chocolate and hot tea and pray for serious inspiration and motivation!

A few weeks ago I wrote a synopsis for my novel...

"The power hungry and evil lord over Lindalla has made profits for years by falsely accusing and imprisoning innocents and making them pay exorbitant prices to regain their freedom. Things seem without hope until a mysterious hero emerges from the shadows. He swoops in and emancipates the peasants, one after the other, until his fame spreads far and wide. The wicked lord does all he can to capture the Hawk, but to no avail.
Eventually he consults with the village's most skilled hunter to hire him to kill the hero. When persuasion is required, he threatens the hunter's aging parents. Reluctantly, the man agrees, channeling his anger towards the Hawk for placing him in the difficult situation.
A beautiful young village girl longs for more than her simple, but happy life. She feels helpless and trapped, unable to do anything for the people she loves. When an opportunity to make a difference strikes, she leaps at the chance. Things go well for a time, but her world becomes unexpectedly complicated when a handsome stranger enters her life. A stranger who pursues her in the day, and hunts her in the night.
When the Hawk and the Hunter meet, neither will ever be the same."

It's a little wordy, but I think it sums up the plot nicely. I'll probably end up rewriting this a dozen times before my inner critic nods in begrudging satisfaction.

  1. I love the synopsis you wrote! And I am sure you will do fabulously well during the month. Obviously you will have less time while gone for the week, but you can still take the lappy for those unexpected times of inspiration!
